Men's Health
This includes:
- Vasectomy We no longer off the Pre-Pubic "Vatsyayann" technique or services to non-registered patients. In general it is best to have a vasectomy with a specialist urologist or general surgeon, although I could provide a traditional "snip" if specially requested. Either way read about pros and cons here.
- STD checks and treatment -including genital warts, herpes and fully confidential HIV screening.
- Erectile Dysfunction(impotence) management.
- "Well men" checks Apart from the need for a Full Health Check, men have a need to ensure Prostate and Testicular health. Examination is essential if any urinary symptoms or scrotal lumps (followed in the latter by Ultrasound and if needed, urology review). PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) monitoring can be useful in detecting a rise before any symptoms of cancer (or an abnormal examination), but of little use from 70 up as intervention in older men causes more harm than good. Recent studies such as the European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC) revealed PSA-based screening reduced the rate of death from prostate cancer by 20% but was associated with a high risk of overdiagnosis. To prevent the latter, significant rises are usually referred on to a urologist where MRI scans can reduce the need for an invasive biopsy.
- Full Medical review or "checkup"(see "Health Check") -please note: this service cannot be performed in a 10-15 minute standard consultation but is best arranged AFTER the Nurse Health Check (and blood tests) or it will require a follow-up appointment.
